LAGUIOLE G. DAVID: from G. David to GENES DAVID
Historically, M. Genès David stamped the knives engraving on the steel’s hollow “G. DAVID France” on the blade’s heel. When Genès David started to produce in 1922, he also used the brand “TH. PRADEL”. Meaning: “Thouly Pradel”. Then, Genès David stamped his regional knives like Pradel knives , Yssingeaux knives, navettes knives or pruning knives. The descendants of Genès David continued until 2011 to engrave their blade “G.DAVID” in memory of their illustrious ancestor. The most famous brand of Laguiole knives was known under this signature for mainstream. However, in front of the factory success, ARBALETE GENES DAVID, which hired more than a hundred people, jealous usurpers used DAVID’s name on their Laguiole products. Subsequent to that, in 2011, Laguiole ARBALETE G.DAVID brand modified its marking. The hallmark carries today the inscription of: “LAGUIOLE ARBALETE GENES DAVID-FRANCE” and “Since 1810” on the blade’s heel to remind that it’s the oldest Laguiole cutlery factory: the model.
